Nutrition Education
The Nutrition Education program is offered free to families that have a CSA through The Vegetable Connection.
Every summer, June through August, we offer weekly/bi-weekly cooking classes and workshops. Later in the season we do monthly classes. These are offered first to the families in The Vegetable Connection Program, then to the growing waitlist.
Most of our recipes are vegan and free from the top allergies. It’s important for our community to have access to local vegetables AND know how to enjoy and eat vegetables daily. These classes are free and for the whole family. They often involve making dinner together with seasonal vegetables, then enjoying dinner together as a group. See our Recipes Page for dishes we have prepared at our cooking classes.
We hold most of our classes at Rogers Park, a Fort Collins Public Park. Rogers Park is surrounded by green space, a basketball court, trees to climb, and a playground. It has a great space to hold events, with a red barn shelter that provides shelter from snow, rain and the sun.
Rogers Park is where we have our community garden. We like to take the kids and adults out to the garden at the beginning of classes to harvest vegetables, herbs, and flowers for our meal.
Throughout the season we focus on meals that incorporate local seasonal vegetables, preservation techniques and trying new vegetables together.
Being part of The Feeding the Families program also means you are part of the Nutrition Education program.
To register for classes, please visit our Classes Page and RSVP for the classes you would like to attend.
Agustina Niebylski of Northern Colorado Food Bank (970.829.5544) is offering ongoing Cooking Matter Classes, virtually and in person. This fall Agustina will offer classes to the families and waitlist of The Vegetable Connection. To register for classes participants must RSVP or contact Jill at The Vegetable Connection.
In addition to the Food Bank classes, Jill will be offering in person classes throughout the summer season. All members of The Vegetable Connection can attend these workshops and bring their families for free. Contact Jill to sign up.
